Karel Appel

Karel Appel (1921–2006) was a Dutch painter, sculptor and poet and a founding member of CoBrA. He is celebrated for his vibrant colours, thick impasto and spontaneous, childlike imagery that exudes energy and optimism. Appel’s works combine raw expressiveness with playful vitality, making him one of the most recognisable figures of post-war art.
